Lip Blush showering
Showering After Lip Blush – What You Need to Know
Can you shower after lip blush? Yes, you can still shower and maintain your normal hygiene routine after lip blush treatment. However, freshly treated lips need a little extra care while the skin is healing.
One of the most common questions following lip blush is whether getting your lips wet will affect the healing process.
The important distinction is between gently cleansing your lips as instructed by your permanent makeup artist and repeatedly exposing them to running water, excessive moisture, heat or irritating products.
Here is how to manage your daily routine during recovery.
1. Can You Shower After Lip Blush?
You can shower after your appointment, but keep showers comfortably warm rather than excessively hot, particularly during the first few days.
Avoid standing with your face directly beneath the shower stream or allowing shampoo, conditioner and body wash to run over your freshly treated lips.
Try to keep your shower relatively short and avoid prolonged exposure to steam.
You do not need to avoid washing altogether. The aim is to keep your lips clean without unnecessary soaking or irritation.
2. Can You Get Your Lips Wet After Lip Blush?
Yes. In fact, controlled cleansing is an important part of the aftercare routine we recommend at Polished Brows.
Our usual aftercare guidance is:
Day 1: Gently cleanse your lips approximately every one to two hours while awake, following the cleansing instructions provided by your technician.
Day 2 onwards: Continue gently cleansing around four to five times daily, including after eating, drinking and brushing your teeth.
Always use clean hands and pat the area dry gently using a clean, disposable material.
There is a difference between carefully cleaning the treated area and leaving your lips wet or repeatedly exposing them to running water.
Follow the specific aftercare instructions provided by your treating artist, as protocols can vary.
3. Washing Your Hair After Lip Blush
Washing your hair can feel awkward when you’re trying to avoid getting shampoo and water on freshly treated lips.
A few simple adjustments can help:
- Tilt your head backwards when rinsing your hair.
- Avoid allowing shampoo or conditioner to run down your face.
- Keep the shower stream directed away from your lips.
- Gently pat your lips dry if they become wet.
You can also wash your hair separately over a basin if that feels easier.
There is no need to purchase a special shower accessory for lip blush. The priority is simply avoiding unnecessary contact with irritating products and prolonged moisture.
4. Washing Your Face After Lip Blush
You can continue washing your face, but take extra care around the mouth.
Use a gentle facial cleanser on the surrounding skin, avoiding direct contact between active skincare ingredients and the freshly treated lip area.
Avoid exfoliating acids, retinoids, facial scrubs and strongly fragranced products near your lips until the skin has healed.
Cleanse your treated lips separately according to your aftercare instructions rather than rubbing them with a facecloth.
5. Brushing Your Teeth After Lip Blush
You can brush your teeth as normal, but be gentle around the mouth.
Try to prevent toothpaste from sitting on your freshly treated lips, as it may cause irritation.
After brushing, carefully remove any residue from the lip area using your recommended cleansing method, then gently pat dry.
Avoid rubbing or stretching the lips unnecessarily.
6. What About Steam, Saunas and Swimming?
During the initial healing period, avoid activities that expose the lips to prolonged moisture, excessive heat or potentially irritating water.
These include:
- Saunas and steam rooms
- Hot tubs and swimming pools
- Long, very hot showers
- Prolonged soaking of the treated area
Wait until the surface of your lips has healed and follow your technician’s advice before returning to these activities.
7. When Should You Apply Lip Aftercare Ointment?
At Polished Brows, we advise clients not to apply Vitamin A&D ointment immediately after treatment.
Instead, we recommend waiting until the lips begin to flake naturally, which commonly happens around days four to six, although healing times vary.
Once flaking begins, apply a very thin layer of the recommended product as instructed.
Do not pick, peel or pull away flaking skin.
The visible flaking stage often finishes around days six to eight, but your final colour can take approximately four to six weeks to settle.
8. What If Your Lips Accidentally Get Wet?
Don’t panic if water splashes onto your lips while showering or washing your face.
Gently pat the area dry with a clean, disposable material and continue following your normal aftercare instructions.
An accidental splash does not automatically mean your lip blush has been damaged.
Avoid rubbing, scrubbing or applying extra products in an attempt to compensate.
9. What’s Normal During Lip Blush Healing?
In the first few days, you may experience tenderness, swelling, dryness, flaking and changes in colour.
Your lips may initially look brighter or darker than expected before becoming lighter as the surface heals.
These changes are often part of the normal recovery process.
However, increasing pain, spreading redness, warmth, pus, fever or new clusters of blisters should not be dismissed as ordinary healing. Contact a healthcare professional promptly if these develop, particularly if you suspect a cold sore outbreak or infection.
10. A Little Extra Care Makes Everyday Routines Easier
Lip blush recovery doesn’t mean putting your life on hold.
You can still shower, wash your hair, brush your teeth and maintain your usual hygiene routine. The key is to make small adjustments while your lips recover.
Remember: Gentle cleansing is encouraged as part of your prescribed aftercare routine. Prolonged soaking, excessive steam and irritating products are best avoided until healing is complete.
